Muller, who is in his 50s, has been convicted of killing 39-year-old musician Cedric Gagnon’s colleague, who had previously been reported missing. Prosecutors say Muller killed Gagnon, dismembered his body and dumped the remains in rubbish bins in July 2018. Gagnon’s body has not been found since he went missing four years ago. At the time, Gagnon’s friends had been waiting for several weeks before reporting his disappearance. Muller described the murder in a notebook dated August 30, 2018. The pages were discovered by police, who showed up at Muller’s home to find him in critical condition in the bathroom, according to police statements. Muller would later claim that these notes were not a narration of real events, but lyrics of songs he wrote, according to his defense lawyer. “He basically said it was part of the job he was doing on a notebook containing other song notes and chords,” Jordan Trevik told CTV News. During the trial, the defense argued that very little physical evidence had been uncovered to convict Muller, Trevick said, with no remains or weapons ever found. “There was little evidence of a specific crime where it allegedly took place,” he added. Muller was taken to hospital and interviewed by police, while crime scene analysts returned to look at the scene.
