An officer responded to a disturbance on Ellis Street Square 1000 shortly after 12:15 p.m. called for help after suffering a knife wound, the RCMP said. Several police officers arrived and the suspect was arrested. Both the injured police officer and the suspect were taken to Kelowna General Hospital. Police said the officer suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, while the suspect’s injuries are not life-threatening. Kelowna RCMP Insp. Adam MacIntosh said the incident underscores the dangers faced by officers at work. “I am grateful for the incredible work they have done to support each other and to respond to this,” he said in a statement. “Our thoughts remain with the officer and their family.” The RCMP said the area around Ellis St. reopened to the public.
