At a news conference Monday, Nevada County Sheriff Shanan Moon said a volunteer from the Adventures with Purpose dive team spotted the vehicle in Prosser Reservoir on Sunday. The dive team confirmed the vehicle was found upside down under 14 feet (just over 4 meters) of water.

Although Nevada County police have yet to positively identify the remains as Rodni, Adventures with Purpose released a statement claiming the teenager had been found. Rodni visited the Prosser Family Campground on August 5th. The next day, he was last seen around 12:30 a.m., the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said. Rodni’s case had initially been treated as a possible kidnapping, although officers at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office conference call Monday said that was because they could not rule it out as they had “nothing to go on.” Also on Monday, Rodni’s family released a public statement thanking friends, family, law enforcement, the media and the global community “for the love and support you have shown us over the past two weeks.” “We have weathered a storm of unfathomable strength and continue to stand today only because of the army of warriors, matriarchs, healers and helpers who hold us up,” the statement read. “Mr. Rogers famously told a ‘looking for the helpers’ story whenever he saw scary things on the news,” the family continued. “We didn’t have to look for helpers as you all came to our rescue in full force.
