In a formal leadership review (unheard of) is that 1,300 computers would wake up in a conference hotel on Saturday morning and grab a coffee and go in to vote on the leadership review, and 75 or 80 percent would vote for the leader Or the 15 or so you know, about 20 percent, the people who did not make the appointment, did not receive the funding or the prime minister did not send flowers for birthdays or whatever, they came and voted against the leader and all was well. And if that was what I had to do, no problem. No problem. Normal domestic policy – I can handle it. I can do it. But that, nothing normal in that. People who think I’m involved in a global conspiracy to trade children literally showed up to vote on April 9th. So what we are trying to do, and I appreciate your support for that, is to activate (vaguely) the vast majority of the dominant conservatives and just like-minded people, both of them. Because if I, you know, what is the easiest way for me? Just to take a walk. I do not need this job. I’m sure I could go to the private sector and have my evenings and weekends off. Like me, it does not sound so bad to me. So why not do it? I thought about it a lot, honestly, at Christmas, and I decided no, I decided it would be blatantly irresponsible because if we had leadership elections in this context, I think they would be permanently divided (unheard of). Give the NDP the next election.
You can imagine (fuzzy) leadership candidates going to parts of rural Alberta where these feelings are not, you know, where these feelings are overwhelmingly prevalent. It would poison the party forever.
Well, hm, I decided that, again, after much deliberation, well, with my colleagues and others that I should stay in it, I should now make this party to ensure that it remains a mainstream party.
And by the way, it’s not just COVID madness. Preston Manning used to say that bright light attracts some bugs, but there are more than a few bugs that attract us, this party right now because of COVID and other anger.

I excluded (unclear) as a candidate, and about 35 other people in the last elections. All 35 are coming for me on April 9th.
The, eh, crazy people are trying to understand asylum. And I’m not going to leave them. I will not let that happen. I will not let this dominant conservative party become, eh, an agent of extreme, hateful, intolerant, bigoted and crazy views.
Sorry to be so blunt with you, but you have to understand what is at stake here. You may not like me or my style or the decisions I have made, I do not like it, I welcome constructive criticism.
But my appeal to the members is: “Look, you asked how to move (vague) towards the future, moving (vague) towards the future.”
COVID, we know the worst of this, I think we have reason to believe that the worst is behind us.
Yes, there will be more waves, the BA.2 wave in Europe and Asia will take us – but no one closes in these societies because they do not, because they do not show up in hospitals. Hm, it’s basically even seemingly less pathogenic than Omicron. So we can believe that the worst of COVID is behind us.
