Logan Mwangi was discovered on the Ogmore River in Pandy Park, Bridgend, on July 31, 2021, near the apartment where he lived with his family. He had suffered catastrophic injuries similar to those found in high-speed road accidents or falls from heights. John Cole, 40, Angarad Williamson, 30, and a 14-year-old boy who could not be named because of his age all denied the murder. Peter Rouch QC, defending Williamson, asked Cole about the comments of a neighbor who heard a quarrel two days before the boy’s body was found. Did you speak to Logan in a strong and aggressive way?” Cole, who is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs between 14 and 15 stones, replied: “I shouted at Logan, yes. We both shouted at Logan. I was not aggressive with Logan.” Mr. Rouch asked, “When you had him in the hallway, you said, ‘Why is he scared, is he always scared?’ “You said, in essence, ‘You have to stop him from being shy when I’m near him, otherwise the social services will get involved?’ Cole replied, “No.” Mr. Rouch asked, “You were there in the hallway and you said, ‘The only thing he understands is the pain.’ You hit him twice in the stomach and he fell back on his back.” Cole replied: “No, I did not hit Logan in the stomach.” Mr Rouch suggested: “You told the young people, ‘If he’s encouraged again, take him down.’ “I would suggest Logan started trying to talk, he stuttered and the young man did what you told him to do and took him down.” Cole replied: “He did not touch Logan, I did not touch him. Neither of them hit him.” Picture: The maisonette in Sarn, in Bridgend, where the family lived Defendant claimed he and Williamson were rowing after she shook Logan and she took him back to his bedroom. Mr. Rouch said, “Did he say, ‘I’m tired of these series and I’ll leave you,’ and you said, ‘If you do, I’ll kill him,’ meaning Logan?” Mr Rouch said Williamson’s case was that he went to bed on the night of Logan’s death and did not wake up until 5.30am. “I did not punch Logan. I never said Angarad punched him, I never said that,” Cole said. “I did not kill Logan. Angarad was awake, Angarad woke me up.” He told jurors he had gone to bed around midnight and had left Logan alive with Williamson. “He said he heard Logan take his last breath,” he said. Williamson and the youth deny the murder and the distortion of the course of justice. Cole denies the murder, but admits he has diverted justice. Cole and Williamson are also accused of causing or allowing the death of a child. The trial continues.
