Officers from the Terrorism Investigation Unit have charged the man with plotting terrorist acts, hijacking and posting an article that caused a bomb hoax. The incident led to the evacuation of Secretary Simon Coveney from a peace event at the Houben Center on Crumlin Road last Friday. This is due to the fact that a man was forced at gunpoint to drive his van – with an object placed inside – to the event organized by the John and Pat Hume Foundation. The suspect will appear before the Laganside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. As usual, all charges will be re-examined by the Prosecutor’s Office. On Tuesday, police confirmed that they had taken an additional 36 hours to interrogate the man after his first arrest on Sunday. A 48-year-old woman arrested during the investigation was released.
