The frantic attack happened as the 43-year-old Burman took the road to his front door after returning from work. Arslan, 52, stabbed him to death in front of him before sitting on top of him. He was charged with harassment just a week before the murder. He reportedly accused Mr Boorman and other neighbors of trying to oust him. The Turk also claimed that the Boormans had racistly abused him. In a recorded police interview, Ms Boorman said she unlocked the front door for her husband around 5pm on the day of his murder. She mimicked the movement of the blade she lowered and again on her husband’s face and neck, saying: “She continued to stab Matthew as if he were an animal.” He went on to describe how he had screamed at neighbors to come and help. Arslan then threw her with the knife. “I wish I had hit (Arslan) with something or thrown something or done something to distract him, so that Matthew had a chance to run,” he said. “Arslan treated Matthew as if he were a piece of meat. he sat on top of him and lit a cigarette as if he were triumphant. He said: “He can not get it out of his mind.” After killing Mr. Boorman, who had made a series of threats against people for housing development, he forced his way into Peter Marsden’s house and stabbed him eight times. Fortunately, Mr. Marsden finally managed to fight him off the property. Ms Boorman said: “He was threatening everyone and he was enjoying it, he liked his attention – he said he was going to kill us.” Residents armed themselves with golf clubs, batons and wooden boards to hold Arslan until police arrived. Another resident, Elizabeth Stock, a nurse, recalls that when police arrived, Arslan’s wife, Louise, was “verbally aggressive” and threw a glass of water at them. Arslan admitted to attempting to assassinate Mr. Marsden, causing serious bodily harm to Ms. Burman, and was charged with assault, but denies the murder, claiming he was in the hands of a psychiatric disorder.
