Alan Anthony Rothwell, homeless, was due to stand trial in Newcastle Crown Court this morning, Saturday, April 2nd. 

The 34-year-old faces a charge of rape, digital penetration, robbery and kidnapping. Read more: Durham County pedophile throws children with cannabis and infection 10 year old with STDs As previously reported in the Chronicleive, police were called to Rising Sun Country Park in Benton on Monday, March 28, around 4:10 p.m., after a woman reported being raped near the Pit Heap area. An investigation was launched immediately and police officers remained in the area for the last few days conducting investigations. The victim is being treated by specially trained police officers. Extensive investigations have been ongoing since Friday and Rothwell was arrested on Friday. The head of the investigation, DCI Shelley Hudson, previously said: “We continue to support the victim at this time and would like to once again commend her courage and cooperation with the investigation. “Our teams have been working tirelessly since Monday, reviewing CCTV and conducting a series of surveys.” Read more related articles Read more related articles
