On Saturday, homicide investigators announced charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death. A spokesman said Christopher Raymond Hartl, a Surrey resident, was found injured in the home and was receiving medical attention. “The victim was taken to hospital and despite efforts to save his life he did not survive,” said Surrey RCMP spokesman Sgt. Andrea McKinney in a statement Friday night. The shooting occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. PT, when police arrived at the scene near 97th Avenue and 126th Street. Charged with second-degree murder
On Saturday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said 40-year-old Darren Ellis Scott had been charged by the BC Attorney with a second-degree murder charge. Murder investigators said in a statement that they believed the shooting was “isolated and unrelated to the ongoing gang conflict in Kato Sterea”. They ask anyone who has information to contact them.
