The Surrey RCMP said the shooting happened as police responded to an attempted armed robbery and car robbery. The Mounties say the first call came at 5:41 a.m., with reports of a man pulling a gun on a woman as he tried to rob her at 14400 108th Avenue.

Police say a second call, this time armed robbery, came almost immediately after a nearby location. Responding officers saw a vehicle moving away at a speed that matched the description of the one reported to have been stolen. The Office of Independent Investigations (IIO), which investigates all cases of serious injury or death involving police, has been developed but has not yet provided any information. The area was closed to traffic for investigations.
