The victim of the attack at Bethany Green, in east London, is said to be 40-year-old Jasmine Begum, who came from the area. Metropolitan police said a 40-year-old suspect was arrested Sunday in Stratford and remains in custody. An autopsy conducted on Saturday found the cause of death as multiple stab wounds, according to police. Police were called to Globe Road shortly after 4pm on Thursday after school staff sounded the alarm when Begum did not arrive to pick up her children, Scotland Yard said. She was found with knife wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. DCI Laurence Smith, who is leading the research, said: “My thoughts are with Yasmin’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. I want to assure them that we work around the clock to get them the answers they deserve. “It is heartbreaking that another woman was killed. All women and girls have the right to feel safe, at any time, day or night, in public or at home, and we will do everything we can to find those responsible. “Addressing violence against women is one of the Met’s top priorities. Police officers, including medical examiners, remain at the scene. We will continue to conduct door-to-door searches and locals will also see additional police in the area. “We invite any witness or anyone with any information to contact us. No matter how insignificant your information may be, do not hesitate to contact us. “It could be the key to this research.”
