According to an IIO statement, officers responded to several reports of incidents involving a man who appeared to have a gun. It is not known if the same suspect is linked to all the reports. Mountis identified a possible suspect in at least one of the incidents at the intersection of 142A and 87A, according to the statement. Police reported a fight with the suspect and he was shot, according to the IIO. Although he was taken to hospital, he did not survive. The IIO is BC’s civilian police surveillance service, tasked with investigating all incidents involving police leading to serious injury or death.
