The EMS was sent around 6:15 p.m. following reports of a collision at the Sarcee Trail and Richmond Road SW intersection A 40-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Foothills Medical Center in critical condition, threatening his life, EMS spokeswoman Helene Hamilton told CBC News. Calgary police said the man was trapped inside the vehicle. The Sarcee Trail to the north is open. The South Bound Sarcee will remain closed on Richmond Road. Calgary police initially posted on Twitter that the entire intersection was closed, but said at 7:15 p.m. that the Sarcee Trail heading north reopened. The Southbound Sarcee Trail will remain closed on Richmond Road, police said, along with the east and west lanes of Richmond Road. Staff Sgt. Darren Smith told CBC News around 8:15 p.m. that drivers should expect delays and find alternative routes if possible. “At this point, we urge motorists to avoid the area because the roads are closed and will be in the near future,” Smith said.
