Wayne Rooney backs Mauricio Pochettino to become Manchester United’s next boss
Wayne Rooney believes that Manchester United should seek Mauricio Pochettino as its next permanent coach.
A young man is set to be at Old Trafford next season as Ralf Rangnick’s interim season ends. Pochettino, currently at PSG, and Ajax’s Eric ten Hague are considered the two overwhelming favorites for the role. However, Rooney believes the former Tottenham player would be a better fit at work.
The Argentine played a style of football that captured the imagination while he was in north London. He also supported the youth – something that is considered crucial in the red half of Manchester. Rooney also called on Pochettino to be given time to implement his ideas if appointed.
Simon Jordan responds as Ralph Rangnick is accused of “hiding” during Manchester United.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Pochettino did it in the Premier League, he knows the Premier League. He bought at Tottenham through a lot of young players – the same in Southampton. – and I would give him time.
“The coaches now need time to come in and put their own plan in the club and the team and given the time I think it will go well.” He continued: “Pochettino in my opinion is a top coach. He knows how to work with top players but also with young players. They have to do this mix well because they can not afford to fail again.”
Potchetino has struggled at PSG and is the last coach to fail to deliver the coveted Champions League trophy. However, the Argentine will win the Ligue 1 title – which would be his first triumph in the league. He was forced to repel the rumored interest from United earlier this season and has repeatedly reaffirmed his commitment to the Paris project.

Whoever enters will have to decide what to do with the current harvest of players – many of whom did not live up to expectations. Paul Pogba’s contract expires this summer after returning 89 89m in 2016. And Rooney claims it is now time for the Frenchman to look for new pastures.
He said: “I think he has probably reached a point where it is better to move on. I think if Paul is honest with himself he has not had the impact he would have liked since he came back. I watch him play for France and he is a a completely different player, but it did not work out well enough for him at Manchester United.
“There has never been a consistent coach from Alex Ferguson. So whoever comes in has to have time, time to build relationships with players.” Pogba has been linked with a return to Juventus as well as Real Madrid and PSG with the public admissions of agent Mino Raiola being widely criticized.
