A masked burglar broke into the Beckham family’s home in West London and set up thousands of pounds worth of valuables. The thief broke into an upstairs bedroom in the Park 40 million mansion in Holland Park and looted the area while David, Victoria and 10-year-old daughter Harper unknowingly relaxed downstairs. The burglary was discovered this morning when 17-year-old Cruz returned home from a night out and fell on the overturned bedroom and found broken glass. David, 46, reportedly called 999 and began searching the mansion for the burglar with Cruz, while Harper stayed with Victoria, 47, waiting for police. The thief left with thousands of branded clothes, accessories and electrical items stored in the room – but did not stay for longer.
The burglary comes just weeks after Posh and Becks won a design permit to repair their mansion in Holland Park, parts of which were sealed as it began to collapse. Photos of e-mails taken exclusively by MailOnline show that the Grade II list property is retained by the brackets before work begins. The couple was given permission by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to repair their historic back porch and stairs, which had become too dangerous to use. Beckham’s design and access statement revealed their plans to “rehabilitate the terrace, which is considered structurally unsuitable, on a similar basis.” The statement also states that the family no longer uses the terrace, which is structurally damaged due to age, water inflow, cracks and shattering due to frost. Supports and wooden bearings have been installed to provide temporary support to prevent the building from collapsing and losing its original features – including damage to the original cast-iron railings. The statement said: “A civil engineer inspected the terrace and recommended repair and renovation work on a similar basis.” From the photos attached to the application, the roof, which collapses in parts, is supported by metal poles to prevent it from collapsing. The project is overseen by Soho House architect Michael Ergatoudis, who was also responsible for previous renovations to the house and their shelter in the Cotswolds.
