The bomber struck late Sunday near the town of Zinapécuaro, Michoacán. The dead included 16 men and three women, while several people were injured in the attack. The office said drug cartels and gangs were fighting in the area. Michoacán was the scene of a long-running territorial war between local cartels and the Jalisco cartel, from neighboring Jalisco. The battles involved the use of drones, landmines and improvised armored vehicles. Cockfighting, although illegal in many areas, remains a popular hobby in parts of Mexico, although cockfighting is usually clandestine.
