A Washington DC meteorologist is rekindled by social media who calmly called his children into the air to warn them to be immediately protected from a tornado. “Get down as fast as you can, okay?” NBC Washington chief meteorologist Doug Kammer said calmly on a cell phone as the cameras ran during a weather report Thursday night. “It simply came to our notice then. Enter the bedroom down there. And just wait for about 10-15 minutes. OKAY? Do it now. Well. Thanks dude.” The video of the call was posted on Twitter. The map in the air behind him showed the path of the tornado that ran just above his family home when he quickly called home. “Get down as fast as you can, okay?” NBC Washington meteorologist Doug Kammer calmly told his children.McMullan / Sipa USA “I must warn my children. Because I know what my children are doing now. “They’re probably playing online games and they don’t see that,” Kammer told viewers as he turned to the camera. “I was a little scared inside,” he later said in a Twitter post, although his fear was never seen in the air. “It’s safe. Thanks! It’s a scary moment for me though. “ The spectators greeted the diligent dad as a hero. “Absolute respect! “I’m glad your children are safe and thank you for everything you do to keep our community safe!” gushed @_socialcat. “You did the right thing. “Our families come first,” said James B. Creel Jr. “So you know it’s a serious time when the meteorologist calls your kids,” @MitchellAHorton said. “We’ve had tornado warnings in the past, but I could always text my wife or call them off the air,” Kammer told AccuWeather. He said he was “scared inside” during the show. @ LinaMizerek / Twitter “This was the first time I had to make the call live. My wife was not home, so my children were home alone and I knew they would not care. “Fortunately, we were all safe and no one was injured by this tornado.” An EF-0 tornado came to Virginia’s Tyson’s Corner on Thursday night, the National Weather Service confirmed on Friday.
