The Progressive Conservatives made the announcement in a press release on Sunday afternoon, saying that Michael Ford will be a candidate for the 2022 MPP for York Southwest.
“The people of York South-Weston deserve a representative at Queen’s Park who will not just talk and be late, but will fix things and create well-paying jobs for our community,” he said in a statement.
“I know only Doug Ford and the Ontario PC team will get the job done. That’s why I’m honored to be your computer nominee for York South-Weston and look forward to gaining your support and building our great community. “
Michael Ford has served as the local representative for the Etobicoke North wing since 2016, having previously served as administrator of the Toronto District School.
He has served on the Toronto Police Service Board, the Economic and Community Development Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Board of the National Exhibitions of Canada.
The party said Michael Ford would donate his salary to the Toronto City Council to local community organizations while campaigning.
In a statement, PC chief Doug Ford said his nephew was “one of the hardest working people” he knows.
“He does things and fights for the people he represents at every step of the way,” said Doug Ford.
“He has proven to be a strong supporter of his constituents in his last two terms on the city council and will continue to do so at Queen’s Park.”
The Ontario PC press release makes no mention of Michael Ford’s family relationship with the party leader.
