Richard Woodcock, 38, was found dead by police in the Thames Valley after being forced into a property in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on June 26, 2021. Police were called to the scene around 9.40 a.m. due to ongoing disturbance in the residence before they discovered his body. The Milton Keynes forensic court heard how he tried to help a two-year-old boy who is believed to be in danger in the next apartment. A 24-year-old man, Kelvin Odichukumma Igweani, was then shot by a police officer at the scene. “Saved the life of a two-year-old boy” Medical examiner Tom Osborne ruled that Mr Woodcock had been killed illegally and an autopsy on his death showed he had suffered traumatic brain injuries, according to repeated blows to the head. He added that the boy, who suffered life-threatening injuries and needed surgery, was saved by Mr Woodcock’s “heroic behavior”. It is understood that a large kettlebell was used as a weapon in Mr Woodcock, according to the court. Mr Woodcock was attacked and “lost his life,” the medical examiner said, but “saved the life of a two-year-old boy.” The court said it had reacted after a “quarrel” in the neighboring apartment, which had sent a woman screaming to rush to his house, who “feared for her life and was obviously in a state of turmoil”. When he went to help, the door opened and he was dragged and attacked “to the point where he was hit with a 4 kg dumbbell,” the medical examiner said. Mr Osborne added that the victim’s death had had a “catastrophic” effect on his family, who would be “haunted” by what had happened and that a life had been “unjustly” taken away. The victim intervened after the woman cried for help Earlier, the court heard that Mr Woodcock’s wife was calling 999 police after being alerted by a woman calling for help. Mr. Woodcock then decided to go and see if he could help the child in the apartment. A woman and another small child had managed to escape from the management before the police arrived. When police stormed in, they immediately spotted a dead man, later identified as Mr Woodcock. Detective Sergeant Mike West of the Thames Valley Police told the court that two police officers with firearms responded to the incident and were at the scene. A Taser was used on Mr Igweani, who had become “aggressive”, Mr West said. “Officers came in and saw Mr Woodcock lying on the floor. There was a large kettlebell and he had significant head injuries,” he added. Police opened fire when a man entered the bedroom Mr. Iguwani entered the master bedroom after being kicked out by a teaser, but it was ineffective, according to the investigation. Armed officers tried to enter the room, where the boy was crying, as well as the sounds of an ongoing attack. As soon as the police entered the bedroom and first aid was provided, a police weapon was fired. The medical examiner said that “police officers were shot and Mr. Iguani was shot” and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner said that the child suffered serious injuries and spent two months in the hospital, but had fully recovered. An investigation into Mr Igweani’s death will be held at a later date.
