Representatives from First Nation, the Ontario government and the SalDan Construction Team were on hand at the upcoming Missanabie Cree Maskwa Elders Care Home in Third Line East to make the announcement Friday morning. “It’s not going to be just 192 beds for Missanabie Cree members – it’s going to be for the Sault Ste elders. “Marie,” said Missanabie Cree chief Jason Gauthier, speaking to reporters after the renovation. “There will be an opportunity for members of our community to also live in long-term care, that is one of the reasons we have invested.” The Ontario government will contribute 64 new beds to the new facility. “There have been a lot of defense leaders, and you’ve been pushing for it for a long time, and we’ve had a lot of meetings and discussions – and I’m really proud that we were able to bring it to fruition and be here today for such a special announcement,” Sault said.
