MacDonald was reported missing on March 17 after police received a request from the Department of Child and Family Development (MCFD) to check on her well-being. The teenager was known to be aboard a sailboat with her father in Ladysmith and the MCFD had a Family Court ruling that instructed her father to immediately reveal his whereabouts. According to Ladysmith RCMP, Payton’s father was uncooperative and was subsequently arrested and remanded in custody for disobeying a court order. Police say Payton was last seen on the morning of Tuesday, March 15, with her father getting into his truck at the foot of Harbor View Road in Ladysmith. The Vancouver Island District RCMP General Investigation Department has supported Ladysmith RCMP since the investigation began and is now in charge of the case. “The more it disappears, the more our concern grows,” says RCMP Cpl. Alex Berube. 13-year-old Payton MacDonald disappeared 2 weeks ago and her custodial father was arrested in Ladysmith for violating a court order, refusing to provide evidence of her well-being. @CHEK_News pic.twitter.com/GVQo9P78hJ – Skye Ryan (@SkyeRyanCHEK) March 31, 2022 On Tuesday, CHEK News received an e-mail containing a video message from a girl calling herself Payton MacDonald, which fits the description of the missing teenager. RCMP researchers tell CHEK News they believe he is the teenager. “Hi, my name is Payton MacDonald and the date is March 29, 2022,” the video begins. “The allegations against my father are not true. I am not a missing person. “I have seen the reports and it hurts me to understand what he has to go through”, she was recorded saying, holding up a newspaper, with her bangs hanging in her eyes. “He does not deserve any of this. He takes care of me “. “I want you to leave us alone and I want our lives back,” he concluded. Police do not say whether they believe Payton was being held against her will. They said they received and are evaluating a video. “We are evaluating the accuracy of this video and we will follow up on any details about when the video was taken, who took this video,” Beroube said. On Thursday, investigators said they believed Payton was with someone who knew her father, who remains in custody. “To date, police efforts to locate Peyton have been unsuccessful,” said RCMP spokesman Const. Alex Berube. Police also dispelled rumors on social media that Payton was safe and just on vacation. “These posts are not true. “We are still looking to find out where she is, to see if she is safe and to check her well-being,” said Staff-Sgt. Darryl Sandbach. The 13-year-old is described as standing about 5’6 “and weighing about 130 kg. He has brown hair and brown eyes, police note. Anyone with information about Payton’s whereabouts is kindly requested to contact local police or the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
