A new Angus Reid poll of 1,063 Ontar adults shows that 37 percent of eligible voters intend to vote Tories in the June election, compared with 29 percent who say they will vote NDP and 25 percent who intend to vote. to vote Liberals. An additional 4 percent said they would vote for Mike Schreiner’s Green Party.
Support for Ford’s PC party was higher among those living in rural Ontario (47 percent) and those with high school or less (42 percent). There was also a significant difference between the sexes with 46 percent of men saying they would vote for the PC party and only 28 percent of women.
“Prime Minister Doug Ford has reversed a declining approval trend dating back to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. “His party is also seeing a reversal of the decline in support, creating a divide between him and the other two parties vying to rule the province in the summer elections,” said a statement from Angus Reid outlining the results. “In the last election, the PCPO won 76 seats and a majority of 40 percent of the popular vote. “Another majority may be needed to keep the PCPO in power.”
Ford’s approval rating rose to 43 percent in the latest poll, 13 points higher than in January, when only 30 percent of Ontarians said they strongly or moderately approved of his performance as prime minister.
The poll, however, identifies areas vulnerable to Tories in the run-up to the June 2 election.
When it comes to affordable housing, 86 percent of respondents said Ford does a bad or very bad job, while 70 percent said the same about health care.
The Ford government received better scores in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, but a small majority of respondents (53 percent) still said they did a bad or very bad job.
Nearly six in 10 respondents (58 percent) also said the Ford government did a bad or very bad job at managing the economy.
“At least half of Ontario residents say the government has done a bad job on every key file,” said Angus Reid.
The findings for Ontario are part of a larger Angus Reid survey of 5,000 Canadians who are members of an online team. It was held March 10-15 and is considered accurate in two percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
