NeighborWoods is ready to build your yard. The home planting initiative was developed to encourage Kelowna residents to help grow and maintain the city’s urban forest. Kelowna residents can purchase one of six varieties of trees, including American Hackberry, Galaxy Magnolia, Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac, Maidenhair Gingko, Northern Herald Redbud and Redpointe Maple for just $50 plus tax. Trees are limited to one per household per year due to demand. Kelowna City Forester Tara Bergeson says they are excited to bring NeighborWoods back this fall. “We usually host this program in the spring, we had to push things a little later due to supply chain issues. Despite the change in season, fall is actually the perfect time to plant trees because of the cooler weather. We have the residents who they will be joining us to help grow the urban forest in our community this fall,” Bergeson said. To view tree options and order a tree, go to the city’s website. A pickup event will be held Sept. 24 at the Mission Recreation Park Arboretum at 4105 Gordon Drive.
