Previously, only three official Covid symptoms were reported – a high fever, a new, persistent cough, and a loss or change in sense of smell or taste. All of these were introduced earlier in the pandemic and have been maintained ever since, the Mirror reports.
However, now the list has been updated to reflect new variants of the virus and the latest understanding of the disease. The advice comes as anyone suspected of having Covid is required to stay home for five days to avoid spreading – although this is not required by law. The new list of symptoms includes the three mentioned above and adds:
Breathing difficulty Feeling tired or exhausted A body that hurts A headache Sore throat A clogged or runny nose Loss of appetite Diarrhea Feeling unwell or sick
It comes after months of reports that new variants of Covid were causing different reactions in humans and leaving them with different symptoms. After listing the symptoms, the NHS website states: “The symptoms are very similar to those of other illnesses, such as the common cold and the flu.” Previously, when people were experiencing any of the “even mild” symptoms, we recommend that you get tested as soon as possible. However, now with the new government guidance, we simply advise you to stay home and avoid contact with other people if you have symptoms as well as a high temperature or if you do not feel well enough to go to work or do your normal activities.
