Updated: 8:39 p.m. August 23, 2022 Homes have been evacuated and a cordon is in place after a suspicious device was spotted on a north Norfolk beach. Police were called to Walcott Beach, between Mundesley and Happisburgh, just before 3pm on Tuesday. A bomb squad attended the scene, along with the Coast Guard, and a nearby road was closed. A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Walcott Beach following reports of a non-exploding device. “The police are assisting in closing the road and evacuating neighboring properties, along with the Coast Guard. “He is in a cordon position and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team is dealing with the incident.” According to Peter Revell of HM Coastguard Bacton, the unexploded device turned out to be a “well-intentioned false alarm”. The beach and road reopened at 8.30pm.
