Dominic Taddeo, a Rochester mob killer who killed three La Cosa Nostra rivals in the early 1980s, was arrested Monday “without incident” in Hialeah, the U.S. military said in a statement. Taddeo, 64, escaped federal detention on March 28 by “leaving” a house near Orlando. He did not return from a previously authorized medical appointment, authorities said. Taddeo, who was transferred to a half-house months ago from a medium-sized prison, was due to be released from federal custody in early February. In 1992, Taddeo pleaded guilty in federal court to extortion crimes and other offenses, including the murder of three men on behalf of the Rochester area criminal family. He also tried to hit former Rochester Mafia leader Thomas Marotta on two occasions. A federal judge has rejected Taddeo’s request for compassionate release in late 2020. He cited health issues and the coronavirus pandemic in his failed report, the Democrat & Chronicle reported. Mobster Dominic Taddeo had escaped being held in a half-house in Florida. Prison Office Taddeo, who was then facing federal firearms charges, was released on bail in 1987 and disappeared. He used more than two dozen nicknames while living in several states, the newspaper reported. Authorities eventually met with Taddeo after an informant told investigators he was going to meet his brother in Cleveland, where he was detained in 1989. Three years later, Taddeo pleaded guilty in Rochester, where he was sentenced to 54 years in prison, the Democrat & Chronicle reported. Dominic Taddeo was to be released from the middle of the street in February 2023.
