An Oak Bay police officer was stripped of his rank after an external investigation documented serious allegations against him. The substantiated charges included drunken abuse, degrading conduct, corrupt practices and two counts of negligence. The Oak Bay Police Department says it was informed of the allegations against the then Sergeant. Davindar Dalep in October 2020. The Office of the Public Complaints Commission was informed and asked the Victoria Police Department to investigate the matter. Dalep was assigned to administrative duties while the investigation was ongoing. VicPD completed its investigation on 2 February. Based on his findings, Dalep was demoted from a sergeant to a first-class police officer, according to a statement from the Oak Bay Police Department. He is not allowed to compete for promotion for one year and needs approval from the leader to compete for promotion. Dalep returned to his operational duties as a police officer under the supervision of a sergeant, the department said. “I admit I made mistakes. “I take full responsibility for them,” said Dalep, who joined the force in 1998 and was promoted to sergeant in 2017. “I’m now facing disciplinary action for these mistakes. But I’m not corrupt. I was cooperative and honest with the researchers. “I have learned from my mistakes – that’s why I got my job back.” [email protected]
