Health officials said just over 6,200 PCR tests had been processed in the past 24 hours, the lowest number of laboratory-tested tests since last Monday. That yielded a positive rate of about 17.9 percent, the health ministry said. The last time the positive rate was so high in Ontario was in late January. An additional 1,741 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, however, it is important to note that Ontario continues to apply test restrictions and this number is a result of underestimation. Sewage data provided by the Ontario Scientific Table COVID-19 appear to confirm this small increase in contamination. In almost every area of the province the concentration of the disease in sewage has begun to increase. Four additional deaths were also confirmed Monday. Three of the deaths occurred in the last month, while the rest of the deaths were added to the cumulative account after clearing data. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 12,405 people have died from COVID-19 infection. The number of people being treated for the disease has risen slightly since the previous day, however, some hospitals do not provide complete data on COVID-19 over the weekend. According to the county, there are at least 655 people being treated for the new coronavirus in Ontario hospitals, including 124 in the intensive care unit. No further vaccination analysis was provided for hospitalization. In all, 1,115,046 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in Ontario.
