TORONTO – Ontario Power Generation executives are the four highest paid civil servants in the province in 2021, according to the county’s annual “sun list”.
The revelation of more than $ 100,000 worth of public sector workers had more than 240,000 names on the list released on Friday, with Kenneth Hartwick, CEO of Crown Electricity, back in the top spot.
Kenneth Hartwick had a salary of $ 1,628,246 in 2021 and Dominique Miniere, the company’s chief strategist, was the second highest paid with a salary of over $ 1.5 million.
Two other company executives said they earned more than $ 1 million, ranking third and fourth.  Kevin Smith, CEO of the University of Toronto Health Network, remained in fifth place again with a salary of $ 845,092.
Others in the health sector were also among the 10 highest paid.  Ontario Health CEO Matthew Anderson came in seventh with a salary of $ 826,000.
Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, a health care practitioner in the Sandbury area, had the ninth highest salary at $ 800,726, and Sunnybrook Health Center CEO Andy Smith was in 10th place with $ 799,614.
In all, there were 13 people employed in hospitals or public health committees that were among the 30 highest paid.  Sutcliffe was the only local public health official in the top 30, and the rest were senior hospital executives plus a psychiatrist working in North Bay, Ont.
The county says the list of employees has grown by 38,536 since 2020, with 96 percent of the increase attributed to growth in the wider public sector.
A spokesman for Prabmeet Finance Minister Singh Sarkaria noted that school boards accounted for much of the increase, and said the average reported salary fell slightly in 2021 to $ 123,738 from $ 125,870 the previous year.
Phil Verster, CEO of Metrolinx transit Crown, finished in the top ten with a salary of $ 838,960, and Ontario Pension Board CEO Mark Fuller, at $ 805,247.  Verster and Fuller were in sixth and eighth place, respectively.
Prime Minister Doug Ford earned $ 208,974 last year, similar to his 2020 salary. Ford’s chief of staff, James Wallace, was paid $ 333,316.
The public sector wage bill, enacted by former Progressive Conservative Prime Minister Mike Harris in 1996, requires state-funded organizations in the county to list the names, positions and salaries of those who make the most money. from $ 100,000.
The taxable benefits from the previous year must also be disclosed.
