The fashion designer in Kamloops, BC, was enjoying a relaxing night at home watching the star-studded event when she realized she had been spotted in an Instagram story by Emmy-nominated TV presenter and journalist Rasha Goel. “She was interviewing on the red carpet for the Oscars and she was wearing my dress,” Dixon told CTV News Vancouver in an interview Tuesday. “I was moved immediately. I cried because that’s what I’ve been doing all my career; it’s like all this hard work pays off.” Dixon had some of her designs hung in a Los Angeles boutique, where a stylist then plucked the black and gold tweed dress for Goel to wear. “There was a picture of her just before she came out live on the red carpet,” Dixon said. “Kevin Costner and his guests were right behind her. I was like, oh my God, it was so crazy … I was just rubbing my elbows with all these famous people.” The piece was part of the Dixon sewing line, which was released just a few months ago. “This dress actually cost me only $ 38 to make,” Dixon said. “I found the fabric in the occasional Fabricland section … but it’s really luxurious.” Dixon likes to finish one project at a time and said it only took one day to design the dress from start to finish. According to Dixon, Goel was a big fan of the dress. “He said he was very comfortable and wants to work with me again, so I will continue to make haute couture dresses,” Dixon said. “I’m the type of person who, when a goal is achieved, I think, okay, what follows? So I’ll get that motivation and push as much as I can.” Dixon graduated from the Vancouver Institute of the Arts in 2012, but has been working in the industry full-time for only the last four years. She said she has received a lot of support from her family and friends in the last two days. “Everyone has been watching my journey for so long,” Dixon said. “I know I’ve worked to be here, but I’m so shy that I’m downplaying my achievements. So now I just want to scream from the rooftops like this is what I’m working for. And I think I’re worth bragging about, for sure.” . Dixon was not the only BC liaison at the 94th Academy Awards. The natural cleansing company Pink Solution Canada Corp. The Vancouver-based company has included one of its brand new products in the swag bags given to this year’s Oscar nominees. The Jayde Spot Away portable product is similar to a Tide to Go pen and is designed to remove spots on clothes. “It’s a practical gift that they thought fit the idea of what they were looking for, which was a sustainable product,” Pink Solution CEO David Pasin told CTV News Vancouver. “I’m sure they received hundreds of submissions and we chose to be included, which is great.” Pasin said he has a relative in Los Angeles who is a professional sports team doctor, who was able to bring him in contact with the right people to get the product noticed. “That’s how it turned out,” he said. “I do not think it is very common to choose a company in Vancouver.” Pasin said the Jayde Spot Away, which is packaged in a refillable glass bottle, was created for people with a greater environmental awareness. “When it runs out, you can just refill it with a refill so it can be used over and over again,” he said. “It also fits easily in a bag or pocket.” While watching the Oscars, Pasin said he saw many stars who could potentially benefit from the product. “I looked at all those white shirts that these guys wore that could stain them and drink and eat at parties in the background.” Pasin added that the product will be included in swag bags at the Grammys, which will take place this Sunday. “I was told they would make sure people like Adele, Lady Gaga and Beyonce got one, which is very exciting.”
