A Pakistani official has called for an “immediate end” to the war between Russia and Ukraine, CNN reported. Speaking on Saturday, Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa said the Russian invasion, which left thousands dead, was “very unfortunate” and a “huge tragedy”, according to the report. “Pakistan does not believe in the politics of the camp and wants excellent relations with all countries, especially the United States, the European Union, China, Russia and others,” Bajwa was quoted as saying by CNN. —Hamza Azhar Salam (@HamzaAzhrSalam) April 2, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a war against Ukraine in late February, forcing millions to flee to neighboring countries. His move was met with a wave of international condemnation. Bajwa’s comments come as Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had not previously publicly denounced Putin’s actions following pressure from the West, The Hill reported. “What do you think of us? We are your slaves … that whatever you say, we will do?” Khan said in response to a letter calling on Pakistan to support a resolution condemning Moscow’s attack last month, the report said. However, Pakistan sent emergency aid to Ukraine at the request of the country’s embassy in Islamabad, according to reports.
