In a press release, the ministry said it had informed Congress of “additional assistance activities under the authority provided by the Ukraine Security Initiative (USAI).”
The money is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion that has been going on for more than a month.
This package includes regularly secure communications systems, an anti-drone air system, non-standard machine guns and other defense systems.
“This decision underscores the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in support of its heroic efforts to repel Russia’s war of choice,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
Since the start of the war, the United States has provided more than $ 2.3 billion in defense aid to Ukraine.
The money came the same day a US official told the New York Times that the United States would help allies deliver Soviet tanks to Ukraine in response to a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The official, who spoke to the agency on condition of anonymity, did not give a specific timeline for when the tanks would be transported, but said this would be done soon.
So far, the United States has provided military and humanitarian resources to Ukraine and has imposed overwhelming financial sanctions on Russian institutions and officials with close ties to the Kremlin.
In addition, Congress passed a massive government-funded bill in early March that included $ 13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine.

President Biden himself has said the United States will not declare a no-fly zone to keep the country away from a direct confrontation with Russia, a nuclear power.
NATO countries have taken care not to get directly involved in the war, but have made a commitment in the event that Russia attacks any member of the alliance.
