The legendary rocker / drummer took to the stage on Saturday night in London at the O2 Arena, where he and his teammates managed to, as they say, their last concert together… this after a very successful world tour, which translated “The last domino?” The venue was packed and people went crazy as Genesis ran a list of 24 songs with all the biggest hits and their favorite fans … dating back to the time they were first created in the late ’60s. Indeed, it was awesome … and Phil drove things to the microphone as a singer. As you can see, he was sitting all the time – as his health has deteriorated in recent years … and he is walking around with a cane these days. He is also unable to drum anymore, but nevertheless made a helluva show with Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and his own son, Nic, who participated in the drums for his pop. Even his former partner and rock god Peter Gabriel was on hand. Towards the end of the set, Phil made it known that this marked their final chapter as a live band – and it became for a very emotional moment … a joke too, with some computer jokes about how everyone should find out work in the future. The announcement was met with sadness at first by the crowd, but eventually, they gave the team a thunderous prolonged applause … realizing that they were watching something special. And, of course, as you can imagine, when Genesis last came off the stage … and there, people left – applauding and cheering as Phil and co. left the stage. Like we said, it was a lot of show and a lot of spectacle for everyone who saw it … but if this is, in fact, the last time Phil graces the stage with his talent – you have to wonder, why not leave the guy doing a few solo songs for himself with the band supporting him? Genesis leaves the stage for the last time with Phil Collins, ever, at London O2. pic.twitter.com/5LbsjwUhmL – Lord Burley of Cranleigh, if Blair can become a knight (@ SteveBurley11) March 26, 2022 @ SteveBurley11 All the songs that were played on Saturday were Genesis songs, which is fine … that was their joint tour, after all. But Phil obviously had a pretty productive career on his own, with iconic songs that we’re sure the audience would love to hear – especially if this is really his last run, and at this point it’s supposed to be. Maybe that’s how he wanted it, but man … going out without at least one refrain of ‘In the Air Tonight’ feels a little incomplete, right ??? Anyway, thanks for the music, guys!
