Sony’s PlayStation Blog post goes into detail in a way that can’t be done. The Edge includes two rear paddles and gives users complete control over their button inputs. For example, players can remap buttons and change the deadband and sensitivity of analog sticks. The triggers can even be adjusted via sliders so they also fire faster, and they also have a new edge texture. These changes can be saved to a handful of profiles, allowing users to quickly change different settings on the fly, which is useful for those who want specific settings for certain games. The dedicated Fn button also plays a role, allowing users to switch between profiles, adjust volume and access profile settings while in-game. Aside from some minor cosmetic changes, such as a more angular and black touchpad, black face buttons and a black pad, it’s possible to disable the analog stick caps and the analog sticks themselves. There will be standard, curved and hollow bars, which is a standard feature for many professional testers. However, Edge users can remove the entire stick since they are sitting on their own drive. This is likely to make it easier to combat the drifting rod, as a drifting rod in this case will not destroy the entire pad. These stick units will be sold separately. It will have all the features that a regular DualSense has — adaptive triggers, built-in microphone, haptic feedback and more — and will also come with a USB-C braided cable and carrying case. The USB cable even has a slot that helps lock the controller into the system so it’s less likely to slip out. It’s not clear when it will be released or how much it will cost. However, Sony said more details will be released later. He also said that the prototype had handles, but these were not mentioned here. This is also Sony’s first official foray into professional controllers. There have been other professional controllers for Sony consoles, such as the Hex brand pads, but Sony has yet to do this work until now. Xbox has been making its own elite controllers since 2015 and released the Xbox One Elite Controller Series 2 in 2019.
