Comment We’ve mostly avoided most of the rain this afternoon, but that trend is unlikely to continue. Increased instability and a rather moist atmosphere will lead to widespread showers and a few thunderstorms tonight and into Monday morning. Areas of dense fog are also likely to develop, so take extra care when traveling. Showers and storms should become less frequent as Monday progresses, and we may even sneak in a few rays of sunshine before all is said and done. Until tonight: Showers should develop again across the region tonight. Showers and a few thunderstorms will continue to be widespread overnight, with heavy showers possible. Temperatures will drop into the 60s to 70s, with humidity levels near 100 percent and fog possible. Watch this current weather in the Washington Post. Tomorrow (Monday): Showers and a few stray storms will continue into the morning. Cloudy skies are expected to gradually give way to partly sunny skies and isolated thunderstorms by late afternoon, with temperatures in the mid-80s and high humidity levels. The weather will be mostly cloudy with a chance of isolated showers on Monday night. Lows will be in the 60s with near 100 percent humidity levels once again. See Molly Robey’s forecast for the week. Spectacular European drought continues: Europe’s summer drought is worsening and is likely to have a negative impact on food production as soils across the continent continue to come under pressure. The drought in Europe… 47% of the EU territory is in “Warning” conditions and 17% in “Warning” conditions. This has a serious impact on food production and river transport. Terrible timing when there is already a food crisis and high energy costs with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/Pq02P4mT9s — Scott Duncan (@ScottDuncanWX) August 20, 2022 Want our 5am forecast delivered to your email?
