Police arrested a man who attacked a woman and then tried to get her out of his vehicle this week in Nanaimo. Nanaimo RCMP arrested Bradley Dylan Boscariol and charged him with assault with a weapon and attempted kidnapping. Boscariol is currently in police custody and will be remanded in custody until Monday. The incident happened around 7pm on Thursday at 6900 block on Dickinson Road, near Max Bennett Pioneer Park. Boscariol tried to capture a woman in her 20s. He managed to fight the suspect and run to a nearby house where tenants called 911, according to the RCMP. The police attended and spoke with the woman who had wounds at the top of her body that involved attack. According to investigators, the young woman said she was walking along Dickinson Street after being left by an RDN bus when she noticed a vehicle making strange turns. Seconds later, a vehicle approached and an unknown man got off and asked for directions. While he was looking for them on her phone, he shook a blunt object, hitting her on the head. He reacted and then ran to the nearest house. While Boscariol reportedly followed her on foot for a short distance, he then returned to his vehicle and drove north to Dickinson Crossing. The woman later went to Nanaimo Hospital for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle. Police shared that the investigation into the kidnapping attempt, which used extensive resources and specialized units in the Nanaimo detachment, was a priority. “This incident angered the community and our officers as well. “Investigators were highly motivated to ensure that justice was served immediately and that those responsible were found accountable,” Nanaimo RCMP police officer Gary O’Brien told a news release. The investigation proceeded quickly, mainly due to the extremely detailed description of the suspicious vehicle provided by the young woman. Police search techniques and databases quickly focused on the suspect vehicle and its location. In collaboration with Ladysmith RCMP, around 6pm on Friday, Boscariol was arrested in the suspicious vehicle and taken into custody by police. On Saturday, search warrants in support of the investigation were carried out at a residence and in the vehicle connected to the accused. “The arrest of a person for this incident and the detention by the police within 24 hours, should be reassuring for the citizens of Nanaimos. Our researchers would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the general public for their cooperation and assistance with this dossier, as well as to the very courageous and tough young girl who stood strong when faced with real adversity. “In our books, he is a rock star,” O’Brien added. The police will proceed with their investigation and once again ask for the help of the public Shortly before the attack, the woman told police she remembers seeing a black SUV with three male occupants slowly passing by. When we last saw this vehicle, it had turned right from Dickinson Street to Schook Street. Second, during the attack, the woman lost her brown leather backpack. Research on the scene and in the surrounding area proved to be negative for the object. Police ask if anyone has information about the SUV or backpack, call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and report the file to 2022-9074.
