UPDATE: 5:18 p.m An RCMP spokesperson confirms the police incident has been resolved. Shortly after 10:30 a.m., RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team arrived at the Cherryville Recreation Area to find a man barricaded inside a mobile home and believed to be in possession of weapons. The RCMP spokesperson tells Castanet the person was taken into custody shortly after 2:30 p.m. The Cherryville Recreation Site is now open to the public again. UPDATE: 14:15 A camper who had set up at the Cherryville Recreation Site confirms with Castanet that he was told to leave immediately by the police. “The police told us there’s a guy barricaded in his motor home. We were told by the police to get in our cars and leave and not take anything with us,” he said. The person who allegedly blocked the road is also in the recreation area. Castanet requested information from the RCMP. ORIGINAL: 12:45 p.m There is some sort of police incident going on in the Cherryville area Sunday afternoon, according to unconfirmed reports. Castanet has received reports that a large number of police and EMS members have rushed to the Meadows Campground below Sugar Lake Road for some sort of incident. Several people reported seeing a large number of Emergency Response Team vehicles, RCMP cruisers and an ambulance driving towards the North Okanagan along Highway 97 and then east along Highway 6 towards Cherryville. A Luby resident counted 13 police vehicles heading east through the small village on Sunday afternoon. There is no word yet on what prompted the police response.
