He is the Tories candidate for York South-Weston in northwest Toronto, a part of the city where his family has deep roots. Michael Ford is currently a Toronto City Councilor, representing the same community that his uncles, Doug Ford, and the late Mayor, Rob Ford, served when he was on the city council. In a press release announcing the candidacy of the younger Ford, the prime minister described his nephew as one of the “hardest working people I know” and “a strong advocate for his voters”. York South-Weston has historically become a Liberal or NDP, but is next to the area represented by his grandfather, Doug Ford Sr., at Queen’s Park from 1995 to 1999. York South-Weston is currently represented by NDP Faisal Hassan, who is seeking re-election.
