Mounties said Rivoire was charged last month with sexually assaulting a woman.
The latest development in Oblate’s investigation comes after the leader of the national organization representing the Inuit asked Pope Francis to intervene in the case during a meeting at the Vatican on Monday.
Nathan Obed, president of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, said he had asked the pope to “speak directly to Father Rivoire and ask him to go to Canada to face the charges against him in Canada”. Obed asked the Pope to ask France to intervene if Rivoir was not receptive.
