The Thanksgiving Liturgy was held at Westminster Abbey and saw a church of 1,800 people gather to honor the life of Prince Philip. The queen arrived at the service accompanied by the Duke of York, who also walked her down the aisle in the abbey to her seat. He then took his own place in the front row of the church. The service came after the 95-year-old head of state resigned from the Commonwealth Day service earlier this month due to mobility problems and has spoken in the past about her struggle to move. Earlier reports said the queen was “determined” to be in the service. The Palace said it was actively involved in the service plans, with much evidence reflecting its wishes. The sweet meaning behind the flowers chosen for the monument of Prince Philip

Westminster Abbey gave us some background on the flower arrangements chosen to honor the Duke of Edinburgh today. The abbey’s official Twitter account posted photos of the flowers, which include roses, carnations, eryngium (sea holly) and dendrobium orchids. The colors of each floral composition included shades of red, white and blue. But there is a hidden meaning to the flowers that were chosen. According to Westminster Abbey, the orchids “appear in the Queen’s wedding bouquet”, while the holly “reflects the Duke’s career in the Navy and his affection for the sea”. Windsor Dean pays tribute to “remarkable” Prince Philip

The Duke’s Edinburgh’s intellect, work ethic, sense of humor and devotion to his family were honored in a speech by the Dean of Windsor. Addressing the church at Westminster Abbey, the Right Reverend David Conner said: “He was practical, he wanted to put flesh and blood into his dreams and (recognizing the limitations of life in this so-called ‘real world’) he dedicated his natural energy, its enormous capacity for pure hard work, in a number of down-to-earth operations. “These included equipping young people to face tomorrow’s challenges, encouraging respect for and caring for the physical order, and his pioneering work in facilitating conversation between representatives of different world religions. “Through his passionate commitment, he drew others to himself with admiration and respect and, in the case of those who lived and worked closer to him, genuine love.” Mr Conner added: “I do not want to think that I should paint him a ‘plaster saint’. someone without the usual human weaknesses and failures. “He was too conscious to ever be flattered. Of course, we must say that his life bore the marks of sacrifice and service. “Certainly, he could show great sympathy and kindness. There is no doubt that he had a delightfully fascinating, and often derogatory, sense of humor. “It is clear that his mind restrained both conjecture and common sense. Moreover, no one would ever question his faith and deep devotion to our queen and their family. “However, there were times when it could be abrupt. perhaps, in an heated discussion, forgetting how intimidating it could be. “A kind of physical reserve sometimes made him look a little distant. He could be a little sharp in biting what he thought were bubble bubbles or slander. “On the other hand, we must not forget that he was sometimes injured by unjust criticism or misunderstanding.” Concluding his speech, the dean said: “As we thank for the life of a remarkable man, perhaps the greatest tribute to him, especially in these very turbulent times, will be to accept the challenge, tacit in his life, to rekindle in our hearts something of this call and to pray (as I think he did) for inspiration and guidance to play our part, no matter how small, in the work for a kinder future. “ Kate Ng29 March 2022 12:05 1648551605
