(Stock image.) The province clarifies the requirements for the COVID-19 antiviral pill. The Ministry of Health and Community Services says the pill, Paxlovid, may be an option for those who are within five days of the onset of symptoms and have tested positive, either rapid or PCR. The individual should also be moderately to severely immunosuppressed and not expected to show an adequate immune response regardless of the vaccine status. It is also aimed at people over the age of 80 who have not received the full COVID-19 vaccine or under-vaccinated people over the age of 60 who live in remote communities, long-term care settings or indigenous communities. The department says the province aims to receive 14,000 Paxlovid treatment courses, so they need to prioritize what is currently being used.
