BMW has revealed a Pokémon-themed version of its all-electric Mini Aceman concept car as part of a MINI x Pokémon collaboration. Appearing during a slightly odd segment of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, there was a lot of flowery language focusing on the brand, but not much on the details. It’s a prototype car with ‘gaming features’, although exactly what that means is never really explained. The car appears to feature plenty of neat Pokémon graphics across the board, but Oliver Heilmer, Mini design chief and fellow Keighley questioner about the vehicle, showed off his best media training moves, deflecting the first question to talk a bit. Gamescom, and then leading the conversation to very specific… nothing. The mini is more than just a car, you see. is a character you team up with to explore the road. Image: Gamescom Obviously, this collaboration is a match made in heaven because Pikachu is an electric guy and the car also runs on electricity — it must have taken the marketing team two, maybe three whole seconds to come up with that. Good news for Ash and his beloved Pocket Monster though, as they’ll likely be able to stay on the road with their little wheels while avoiding crippling energy price hikes as the cost of living crisis hits nations around the world . Apparently, you can connect your game console to this Mini, but again, no details were given. “Play on” is the motto behind this collaboration. Thank God they managed to gather this basic information, otherwise we’d be left with questions. Not sure it warrants a Serebii tweet, but at Gamescom this weekend you’ll see this Pokémon x Mini Aceman concept car If it ever comes out, I might have to learn to drive. pic.twitter.com/1QHbR3yMMH — Joe Merrick (@JoeMerrick) August 23, 2022 So yes. An odd piece, to be sure. But hey, at least this part wasn’t based on space. We were disappointed that Geoff didn’t ask Oliver his favorite Pokémon like he said he would.
