It is also a common occurrence for Verizon and Visible (Verizon MVNO) customers on Reddit. Twitter users have also complained about Verizon support. I’ve seen Verizon Support respond to some users and they seem to be addressing this issue on a customer-to-customer basis. The company, as well as other carriers, have not yet made any statement on the matter.
If you receive one of these messages, you are not alone. Although the text may seem legitimate, it is not. You can either forward the message to SPAM (7726) or just ignore it. Do not click on the link as it is a “smishing” scam. Smishing is a text message scam that seeks to steal your personal information.
The Verge has spoken to Verizon and says that if you are concerned about these texts, you can file a complaint with the FCC. There is a complaint section called “Your number is forged” to which you can refer this issue.
This issue has been around for quite some time. With the huge number of people receiving these fake messages, it is unfortunate that this has not yet been resolved. What are the carriers going to do about it? Customers can not do much to solve the problem, as this is something these companies have to handle.
Did you also receive these spam? If so, are the messages from your number or another number? Let us know in the comments.
