Rosemont police said a “solitary and targeted” shooting took place near the dining area inside Chicago Fashion Outlets shortly after 7 p.m. CLOCKS Witnesses describe running for cover as shots fired inside the mallTwo victims of the shootings were rushed to local hospitals and were initially reported to be in critical condition. Police said one of the victims died at the hospital. He was identified as Joel Valdes, 20, by Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. A 15-year-old girl was also shot in the wrist, according to police. Her condition has since stabilized. Police said there may have been a third victim of gunfire who fled the area. Witnesses inside the mall said they heard three to five gunshots and saw people rushing out. “We heard four shots quickly and within minutes we ran,” said Gucci store employee Maria Salgado. “I noticed a stroller was ah, it had fallen and it was a baby bottle placed next to the stroller, it was a little girl stroller,” said witness Stringer Harris. “And that told me how serious this issue was. As long as, for example, it goes from zero to 60. You know, you walk downstairs with your family and you have a good time and the shots drop.” Police said the area is now safe, but Rosemont officers went from store to store to evacuate shoppers and employees.
