US President Joe Biden has called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “butcher” following a visit by Ukrainian refugees to Warsaw, Poland on Saturday. Asked by reporters traveling with the president what made him think of seeing refugees as he confronts Putin on a daily basis, Biden replied: “He is a butcher.” During a short Q&A session at the Narodowy Stadium, Biden recounted how he had gone to places like this in his life, but said he was always surprised by “the depth and power of the human spirit.” “It’s unbelievable, it’s unbelievable. Look at all these little kids. I just want to hug, I just want to say thank you. I mean, it’s just makes you so proud,” he said. He added: “Each of these children said something about it: ‘Say a prayer for my dad or my grandfather or my brother who is back there fighting.’ And I remember what it’s like when you have someone in a war zone. Every morning you get up and wonder. You’re just wondering. And you pray that you do not receive this phone call. “ The Kremlin’s reaction: The Kremlin responded to Biden’s comments in Warsaw, saying his remarks “limit the window of opportunity” for the restoration of US-Russia relations, according to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency. Spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told TASS that “the leader of a nation must have a sober head.” “Of course, every time these personal insults limit the window of opportunity for our bilateral relations under the current [US] management. “One must know this,” Peshkov was quoted as saying by TASS. -CNN’s Chandler Thornton contributed to the report in this post.
