Downing Street insiders say they have had little contact with Metropolitan Police since an investigation into allegations of rallies began during the Covid lockdown in January. Questions about Mr. Johnson’s moves issued by the force have been handled by Mr. Johnson’s private lawyers and not by Downing Street officials. The full scale of how many people have been contacted by the Scotland Yard remains unclear, as the Metropolitan Police do not publish regular updates or name those under investigation. The scandal, which began in late 2021, was first investigated by Sue Gray, a senior civil servant. Earlier this year, the investigation was handed over to the Metropolitan Police after it concluded that there was enough evidence of a possible breach of the rules in twelve incidents. Among the list of events under consideration are the farewell parties for councilors and civil servants of Downing Street, which took place in the summer and winter of 2020, as well as in the beginning of 2021.
