The Surete du Quebec (SQ) said officers received a call around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday after a young woman was struck by multiple vehicles on the 20 Freeway in Dorval. Officers arrived at the scene and 26-year-old Nellie Niviaxie was pronounced dead. “The reason why he was on the highway needs to be investigated,” SQ spokesman Stephane Tremblay said. Two collision investigators were sent to the scene to investigate and police are not treating it as a criminal investigation. Niviaxie was from the northern community of Umiujaq on the coast of Hudson Bay in Nunavik. He lived in the same housing facility for Inuit, in Ullivik, as the 22-year-old woman who was also struck and killed on a Montreal highway this week. In that case, the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services confirmed that the woman from Puvirnituq died from her injuries as a result of being hit by a vehicle around 4:55 am. of Thursday.
