Mercer County officials said Trenton police were called at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday in a reported clash with fists in a large crowd in the courtyard of Kingsbury Square. A notice was also received from the ShotSpotter system, officials said. The girl, later identified as SeQuoya Bacon-Jones, was found with a single gunshot wound and was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and then to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.com reported. Her death was confirmed shortly before midnight, authorities said. Family friend Jessica Dexter says Bacon-Jones was a lively young girl who had her whole life ahead of her. “I feel like I lost a child myself. Even though he was not my child, he was still my child. I just saw her on Thursday,” Dexter said. No other gunshot wounds were reported. Officials said private security police were on the scene at the time of the shooting. Mayor Reed Gusciora called the death “horrific” on Saturday and said there were many eyewitnesses who could help hold those responsible accountable. “Please, we have to join together,” he said in a statement on Saturday. “I feel sorry for the family and friends whose hearts are completely broken this morning. I know the investigators are doing everything they can to get justice. But they need help from our people.” Gusciora says he does not believe it was the intended target. Trenton police and Mercer County homicide squad are investigating. Copyright © 2022 by the Associated Press. All rights reserved.
