The Meteorological Service issued a snow and ice warning for areas of Southeastern Europe as temperatures are forecast to fall below zero. The winter eruption is expected to create frost conditions on the streets on Friday night and at rush hour. The drop in temperature hit London on Thursday with snowstorms throughout the day and dusting at school pick-up time. The Met Office now issued a snow warning for eastern Kent and Essex from midnight Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday, predicting that up to 0.8 inches (2 cm) could fall to higher ground along with sleet and rain. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to around zero for most areas, with -3 degrees Celsius for London.

A torrential downpour of rain, snow and sleet is expected in parts of the East and South East of England on Friday morning – with the Met Office saying significant rainfall is expected off the coast and on higher ground in Kent. In eastern Scotland and eastern England as far as Lincolnshire, the second ice warning said winter rains would continue overnight until Friday, leading to icy patches, especially on untreated surfaces. The Met Office said snow was also likely, especially in eastern Scotland and the highlands of the north-east of England. Meteorologists expect that up to 5 cm could fall to high ground in Scotland, Northumberland and North York Moors over 1,000 feet (300 m), while up to 1.2 inches (3 cm) could fall. on land above 650 feet (200 meters). Temperatures are forecast to drop sharply on Friday and weekend after last week’s sunshine and high above 20C (68F). They will reach 7C (45F) and 8C (46F) across the UK tomorrow and Saturday, rising to 9C (48F) and 10C (50F) on Sunday. Slightly cloudy sunny weather is forecast for the rest of England, Scotland and Wales, with very cloudy skies throughout Sunday. Met Office meteorologist Matty Box said there was a “cold air mass” over the UK. ‘ He added: “There is an ice warning right now,” he added. “If there is thawing and frost during the night, then there is a risk of ice. “I suspect there will be a similar risk from Thursday night until Friday morning.”
