Winter weather replaced the sunshine that hit much of the UK last week, and now the Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning in an area that covers much of eastern Scotland, the north east of England and Yorkshire. The Met Office warning states: “Snow and hail could lead to icy surfaces, possibly interrupting the journey.” He says that in the affected areas, there will be “probably some icy patches on some roads, sidewalks and unpaved bike lanes, leading to an increased chance of accidents or injuries.” The warning, which runs from 8 a.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, says some high-level trails may also be hit by snow. The Met Office forecasts that rain and snow will move south across England and Wales during Wednesday with heavy sleet, hail and snowfall in the north. Wednesday night will bring clear seasons in the north of England with winter rains and extensive frost. In the South of England there will be rain and sleet, with snowfall in the hills continuing southeast, clearing until Thursday. The forecast states that the cold will begin to subside on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to be half of those reached last week, when in many areas sunshine and high temperatures of 20C (68F). And the thermometers will drop below zero overnight as the cold front pushes down from the north.
